"After I read the script for "Dark passages," my head was simply filled with ideas. It was such a strong feeling for me that I dropped everything else I had going, to get started on the Soundtrack. It has been a dream of mine for many years to actually write the score to a movie like this. Ever since I bought Carpenters historic soundtrack album for his "Halloween" movie, I wanted to give people the same deadly chill that Carpenters very simple way of writing gave me and still does.
On this soundtrack I also wanted to let some words come through in the songs, so half the album is what you can call Leæther Strip songs, but the lyrics have topics actually inspired by the script and not just random songs I had done earlier. The other half Is instrumental but still fully Electronic and true to my other works. But don’t expect the usual music that needs the pictures to come to live. Since I didn’t have any pictures to write the music to, I created my own pictures
with the music.
I haven’t heard about a soundtrack written for a movie before the first scene was even shot, and I think that’s a very positive thing, because I got to create my own sound scapes and pictures in my head, and I think all soundtrack composers would like to have that amount of freedom to create their Own little movie with sound. I'm really grateful that I finally got a chance to do this, and I hope that maybe this will open other moviemakers eyes to my work.
Cesar Cruz is a huge talent and friend, I just know he's got some big things ahead of him, and I can't wait until the day "Dark passages" will flicker in front of my eyes in its final form. I will be as proud and happy as I was the day I got my first record deal. That’s how big this thing is for me. I know this movie will scare me out of my head when it’s done. And don’t we all love that feeling.
